About Us!

Whyte Ridge Music Centre incorporated in November 2001.  Our doors opened for business in the following February.  Since then, we have been serving the community of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the surrounding area, with a level of service that one would not expect from a typical music store.  Being one of the smaller stores, we are able to focus our attention on our customers' needs.  We have gained a very positive reputation in the Winnipeg Music Community, in a very short time.  Just ask anyone!!

Our Staff

Kim Carter

is one of the store owners.  Kim brings an extensive knowledge of music to the business.  As a performer, Kim's passion is Black Gospel Music and Jazz.  As pianist and vocalist, she works with many well known Christian Music and Jazz artists including her good friend Walle Larsson.  At home, Kim is mother to four children, all under the age of eight.  She is married to James Carter (not the great sax player, but a sax player, nonetheless).  James manages the store.

James Carter

James Carter manages the store.  He plays saxophone in his spare time (which isn't often at this point).  James brings an extensive business background (finance and sales) to Whyte Ridge Music Centre.  In the past, James has helped out local musicians and bands (Christian and Jazz) with their management and marketing.  He sat on the board of directors as Treasurer for Hear the Music Ministries for two years.

Nick

is our "jack-of-all-trades" employee.  Not only does he help with the retail duties, he repairs instruments and teaches at the store.

Laura Jane

is our Educational Co-ordinator.  She is responsible for many duties at the store including the organizing and scheduling of all the lesson programs.  Laura Jane also comes up with new ideas and implements them to keep Whyte Ridge Music's teaching at high level it has become known for.  She also teaches voice and vocal ensembles at the store.  All this and still has time to just recently become married and attend university!

Our Teaching Faculty

Jaime

is one of our drums/percussion instructors.  Born in Chile, South America, Jaime has returned to Winnipeg after a 7 year absence.  Having obtained a college diploma in Jazz Performance from Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo, BC, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree from York University in Toronto, ON, (majoring in Jazz, South Indian and African Drumming), Jaime enjoys sharing his knowledge with his students.  Prior to returning to further his musical education, Jaime toured with local rock trio "Sundoz".  Upon graduating from university, he worked as the drummer in the jazz trio for several Carnival Cruise ships.  Along with teaching, he is currently "free-lancing" as a Jazz and Rock drummer.  Jaime has been teaching at Whyte Ridge Music Centre since 2005.

Jaclyn

is a qualified, energetic and determined piano teacher with an extreme passion for music.  When teaching, she strives to evoke this passion within her students while encouraging them to succeed. Music has always been a focus throughout her life, beginning piano lessons, song writing, and composing at a young age.  She has completed her Gr.10 Piano, (and theory equivalents)  through the Royal Conservatory of Music and is currently pursuing her ARCT Diploma.  She has been awarded for  her compositions, and received the "Piano Rose Bowl" at the Rainy River District Music and Drama Festival 2003.  She believes that with determination, hard-work and a love for music, anyone can learn to play the piano, and develop their musical gift.
